CEO

Professor Xavier Golay is Honorary Professor of MR Physics at University College London (UCL) and the CEO of Gold Standard Phantoms, a med-tech company spun out from UCL’s Queen Square Institute of Neurology. He also holds the role of Director of Quantitative Imaging at Bioxydyn, reflecting his leadership in translating advanced imaging methods into both academic and commercial applications.

His research focuses on quantitative MRI (qMRI), developing imaging methods that provide reliable, standardized measurements rather than qualitative scans. He has applied these techniques to neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as to oncology, where quantitative imaging can serve as a powerful biomarker for treatment response. His work spans areas such as arterial spin labeling, chemical exchange saturation transfer, sodium MRI, and the development of phantoms and calibration tools to ensure image quality and reproducibility.

Professor Golay has published extensively, with more than 300 scientific papers to his name, and his work is widely cited in the field of MRI, through which he has become a leading figure in efforts to harmonize imaging protocols and establish robust standards for clinical trials and routine practice. Through his academic leadership, scientific contributions, and entrepreneurial ventures, he has played a central role in advancing quantitative imaging and its translation into meaningful clinical and research impact.
